Choose stainless steel or brass for your brand. Both materials can be customized with standard rectangular dimensions or an irregular outline, subject to artwork review. Available decorative methods include silkscreen printing, full-color digital printing, laser engraving, chemical etching, recessed or raised details, open cutouts, and soft enamel color.

Because metal can interfere with standard NFC tag performance, the NFC component and its placement must be selected for the card material. Jin Sheu currently offers two self-adhesive NTAG213 options: a transparent PET wet inlay for suitable non-metal surfaces and an anti-metal white sticker which allows for printing and ID marking. Both standard items have a finished diameter of approximately 25 mm and are supplied with a blank chip unless encoding is requested. The tap location should remain easy for the user to identify. NFC reading performance varies with the tag specification, card construction, smartphone model, case thickness, and tapping position; pre-production testing is recommended before bulk production.

NFC Tag Business Cards - Choose the Right Decoration Process

The best process for your NFC tag business cards depends on the artwork, metal thickness, relief depth, color coverage, and required surface appearance. Soft enamel can add solid recessed color while preserving visible metal borders. For etched, recessed, raised, cutout, or soft enamel designs, the card material must be at least 0.5 mm thick, and the recessed depth must be at least 0.2 mm. These requirements provide enough structure for the intended metal effect and color application. Final feasibility depends on the artwork, spacing, cutout position, and NFC placement.

Silkscreen Printing - Our silkscreen process is a conventional screen-printing method. There is no general card-thickness restriction for silkscreen decoration. However, when printing inside a recessed area, the recess should remain shallow approximately 0.03~0.04 mm. A deeper recess can prevent the screen from making proper contact with the printing surface and may produce incomplete graphics. For this reason, silkscreen printing is better suited to flat surfaces or very shallow etched areas.

Full-Color Digital Printing and Laser Engraving - Digital printing is suitable for multicolor artwork, detailed graphics, and designs that cannot be reproduced efficiently with spot-color silkscreen printing. Laser engraving creates permanent monochrome markings directly on the metal and works well for names, logos, lines, serial information, or understated branding. Artwork and surface finish should be reviewed together because contrast can change on bright, dark, brushed, plated, or coated metal.

Material and surface treatment affect both cost and everyday appearance. Mirror-finish stainless steel raw material costs at least twice as much as standard stainless steel material. Brass cannot produce the same true mirror effect, so buyers seeking a highly reflective card should select stainless steel. Natural, unplated stainless steel with a large chemically etched matte area can collect fingerprints that are difficult to remove. For this construction, we strongly recommend adding one of the following surface treatments.

Clear protective coating: No price increase. The natural steel color becomes darker though, approximately between nickel and black nickel in appearance. The original matte contrast becomes less pronounced and the surface gains a slightly brighter look, although it is not a mirror finish. Anti-fingerprint coating: A substantially higher-cost option. The steel color becomes slightly lighter. Fingerprint marks can still appear, but they are generally easier to wipe away.

Natural bright stainless steel and stainless steel with electroplated finishes do not have the same pronounced fingerprint issue described above. Finish recommendations should always be confirmed against the approved sample because the final appearance depends on the design, etched coverage, and surface treatment.
