Plastic nameplates used for automotive emblems are most commonly made from ABS. However, in certain designs, a combination of ABS and resin is utilized, as shown in this example. The base emblem is produced in ABS, featuring an embossed logo that is chrome electroplated, with the background printed in pink to enhance visual contrast. A clear resin dome is then applied over the surface to create depth, gloss, and added protection.

The resin dome is typically made from either PU resin or epoxy resin. When newly produced, both materials appear nearly identical; without laboratory testing, yellowing over time is often the only visible way to distinguish between them. Epoxy resin is more economical and suitable for indoor products or promotional items, but it tends to yellow within a few months and is therefore not recommended for automotive applications. PU resin, while more expensive, offers significantly higher durability and UV resistance, does not yellow for many years, and is the preferred choice for car emblems and other outdoor uses.
